Hello my lovely, Ecclesiasticals! I hope you’re all doing well (well, as well as can be thanks to this dreadful UK weather). Once againβ€”apologies for being so terrible at posting, but my excuse is almost over as the manuscript for my next book is due for submission in just over a week, so I’ll finally be a bit freer to conjure up entertaining anecdotes for you all.

And that being said, I started to ask myself whether I’d actually gone into detail on the history behind many of the subjects I postβ€”and my answer was, likely, no! I’m here to remedy that today. Let’s start with pilgrimage and unpack it in a little more detail: what is it, how did it come to be, and how has it changed over time?
